Resort Envy
Developers are forging ahead with what they’re calling “the world’s most ambitious tourism development”. The development, named the Red Sea Project, will see 90 underdeveloped islands off the West coast of Saudi Arabia turned into a tourism hub of 50 resorts, airports, residential properties, luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment and leisure facilities. With sustainability front of mind, the project will harness technology to monitor environmental impact and aim to have a “light touch”, with an emphasis on renewable energy and water conservation and re-use.
While 50 resorts may seem a bit over the top, the newly released images for one of the first hotels to be built have made us wanting to make the place our permanent residence. Designed by architecture firm, Foster + Partners, the images of Ummahat AlShaykh Hotel 12 reveal a ring-shaped hotel, complete with timber-roofed buildings, restaurants with stunning views out across the water and luxuriously relaxing spaces.
With final completion of the Resort not due until 2030, we can only imagine what else this aspirational resort development has in store.
