This October Get lost in Lights at DLight
I love light shows, they are creative in a way that inspires childlike wonder. So if you are looking for an excuse to escape the ordinary this spring, I’ve got exactly what you need. In Mid-October the already stunning TreeChurch and Gardens in Waikato’s Ōhaupō is transforming into an illuminated playground.
It’s an immersive evening called DLight. You’ll be wandering through lit performance spaces dotted around the gardens. And there’s food and drinks to help soak up the atmosphere.
TreeChurch is a ‘natural chapel’, where there will be mix of traditional taonga pūoro from Horomona Horo layered with Jeremy Mayall’s electronic and piano soundscapes. You’ll find the Kulios string quartet playing under a massive WWII parachute canopy. Then over in The Labyrinth, poets Nadia Soloman, Michael Moore, and Sam Clunie will be performing against a backdrop of Himalayan Birch trees!! And finally Nathan King from ZED (remember them?) will be playing a set.
It’s all light installations, so it will glow after dark. Roam, hang out, and catch the rolling performances at leisure. FYI Capacity is capped at 320 to keep it intimate. That’s my kind of show.
